The well-known celebrity fashion designer, Gert-Johan Coetzee, recently teamed up with Robertson Winery to create an exciting bag in commemoration of their 170th birthday this year.

Coetzee, who grew up in a small farming community in North West, left school at a very young age and pursued his passion for fashion. He studied at the North West School of Design in Klerksdorp and has since proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the industry.

“I always knew fashion was my passion. I moved to Johannesburg and my career took off. I am humbled and blessed.”

Coetzee has dressed many celebrities over the last few years, including names such as Bonang, local Miss South Africa contestants, Miss Universe contestants, the Kardashians and even rapper and producer, Cardi B.

Last year Coetzee teamed up with Mattel, the creators of the famous Barbie brand.

“It was a full circle moment for me. I remember when I was young, how I designed and made clothes for Barbie dolls. All these years later I got to design for the brand and make some shoes for them. An absolute dream come true,” Coetzee told Gazette.

Now Coetzee has ventured into the art of bag designing and intertwined his love for wine and fashion.

Robertson Winery is one of the well-known brands out there. Nestled in the Robertson area, they have decades of experience in wine making and have various ranges to choose from.

“I love wine. It’s a very social experience and I do enjoy a glass of wine on occasion. When I was presented with this challenge, I knew I had to do it.”

Coetzee then came up with a bag that is both unisex and in true Gert-Johan style, very stylish.

“It was so fun to create this. It is, however, limited and a small batch was made. The quality is amazing and people can now enter to win a bag. All they need to do is to head to the website of Robertson Winery,” he added.
