Rumours had done the rounds on Tuesday morning (4 April) that a cashier at a grocery store in Robertson had been killed by her boyfriend while at work. The Robertson police, however, confirmed the cashier had, in fact, survived the incident and opened a case of attempted murder after being stabbed by her boyfriend.

“The 32-year-old woman was stabbed in the upper left side of her chest by her boyfriend on Tuesday 4 April,” a spokesperson from the Robertson police said.

According to the police the woman and her 38-year-old boyfriend had an argument the previous day.

“The victim then applied for a protection order on the morning of the incident before going to work,” the spokesperson said.

“Shortly after arriving at work around 10:00 her boyfriend showed up not too long afterwards and started stabbing her.”

According to the rumours, the victim was stabbed at her work station while busy helping a customer, but police could not confirm this.

After the stabbing the suspect fled the scene, but was later arrested by the Robertson police in the next street.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for her wound and was still in hospital on Thursday.

The suspect appeared in the Robertson Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 6 April on a charge of attempted murder. The Robertson police was expected to oppose bail and request for the suspect to remain in custody.
