For a second year in a row, Avalon Springs Resort and Hotel in Montagu won the category of Best Hotel in the Kfm Best of the Cape awards.

Three of the winning categories of the prestigious Kfm Best of the Cape awards all hail from the picturesque town of Montagu.

This annual competition hosted by the Kfm radio station seeks to find the best of the best.

Montagu, who last year walked away with two categories, one for the best hotel (Avalon Springs) and the title of Best Dorpie, has this year managed to rope in three titles.

Avalon Springs once again beat some of the biggest names in the Cape to walk away with the title of Best Hotel. Montagu Local, a well-known shop in town walked away with the title of Best Neighbourhood Shop and the title for Best Guest House went to 360on62 Mountain View Cottages, just outside of Montagu.

“We are not surprised. Montagu is a town filled with hidden gems. You arrive here, you experience it and you keep coming back for more. People always say how wholesome, natural and friendly Montagu is,” Mareletta Mundey from the Montagu-Ashton Tourism Office told Gazette.

She and the rest of team is just as excited as the winners, and the rest of the community is also proud of the achievements in this competition.

“All three of these winners are special in their own unique way. For instance, Montagu Local is a fairly new shop and less than a year old, but they always strive to give each visitor a memorable experience. Avalon Springs is also well known and much loved by many. People keep on coming back, just like 360on62, they are also amazing. All of these people are so deserving of this honour,” Mundey added.

She added that a town with such beauty and hidden gems can only function if the municipality contribute to the community and to the area. “We are blessed with beautiful mountains and never-ending views, but we should give thanks to the co-operative Langeberg municipality. To those who have not yet visited Montagu, I implore you to do so.”
