The Langeberg Municipality held a fire emergency simulation last week.

There was no fire at any of the Langeberg Municipality’s buildings recently, however, they exercised a planned fire simulation.

This also involved an evacuation emergency drill.

“The exercise took place at the Langeberg Municipal Offices at 52 Church Street, Robertson,” explained Langeberg Municipal Manager Daniël Lubbe.

“The purpose of the simulation is to assess the emergency preparedness of the response teams, municipal employees and community members in terms of evacuating the building in case of life-threatening emergencies.”

The simulation also allowed the fire department to evaluate its existing response plans.

“The simulation allows the Fire and Disaster Management Department to test and evaluate response plans, procedures, and systems,” Lubbe explained. “The emergency evacuation, part of the simulation exercise, not only helps protect lives, health and property, but also ensures compliance with South African legislation, which mandates a minimum of two emergency evacuation drills per year.

“The simulation exercise involved various stakeholders, including the South African Police Services, Langeberg Fire Department, Cape Winelands District Municipal Fire Services, Metro Rescue and Langeberg Traffic.”

He urges residents to report any fire emergencies on the dedicated fire emergency line, 023 615 8911, speedily.
