The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) has launched an innovative online programme aimed at providing support to parents and guardians of children battling cancer.
Anina Meiring, National Manager of Childhood Cancer Services at Cansa, stressed the immense challenges faced by these families throughout the journey from diagnosis to recovery.
Recognising the vital role parents play as emotional pillars for their children, while also navigating complex treatment plans, Cansa’s initiative comes at a crucial time, coinciding with International Childhood Cancer Day, observed in February.
Key to coping effectively is understanding the treatment regimen and its potential impact on daily life. Cansa’s recent efforts address this need, with a focus on providing accessible and practical support to families in need.
The newly introduced online programme, an extension of Cansa’s Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) initiative, offers brain profiling for both parents and children aged four to nine who are diagnosed with cancer.
Priced at a nominal fee of R270, this programme aims to empower families by providing insights into a child’s cognitive preferences and communication styles, fostering stronger connections within the family unit.
Accessible through a secure online platform, the assessment process is non-intrusive and delivers a detailed report within five working days.
This convenient approach ensures families can access valuable insights from the comfort of their homes, aiding them in enhancing their support strategies.
Meiring emphasises the importance of tailored support and guidance, acknowledging the overwhelming nature of a cancer diagnosis. Cansa’s TLC programme offers a comprehensive range of services covering physical, spiritual, psychological and social well-being, equipping families with the necessary tools to navigate the challenges with resilience. Interested parents and guardians can simply go to qkt.io/TLCBrainProfile to sign up and pay for the brain profiling programme on the secure Quicket platform. They will receive a detailed report outlining the child patient’s unique thinking preferences and communication styles within five working days of completing the online assessment.
This is non-intrusive, non-threatening and may be completed in the comfort of their own homes.
