On Saturday morning 16 May at approximately 07:30, according to preliminary information, three security guards travelling in an armoured cash delivery vehicle, accompanied by two guards in an escort vehicle, were driving along the route when their vehicle was allegedly rammed by a BMW, forcing it to a halt.

The suspects allegedly robbed the security guards of a service pistol before seizing an undisclosed amount of cash. The group then fled the scene in several vehicles, including a white Ford Ranger, a silver Mercedes-Benz and a charcoal JAC, travelling in the direction of Bloemfontein.

Authorities also believe that an Audi Q5 linked to the robbery may have headed towards Ladybrand.

During the incident, one of the security guards travelling in the escort vehicle was shot in the leg. He was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
