RUSTENBURG – The Rustenburg Police Flying Squad has made a significant arrest in connection with the theft of gate motors, napping a 34-year-old male suspect and recovering gate motors estimated to be worth R80 000. Warrant Officer Ofentse Mokgadi, provincial spokesperson for North West, said the suspect was arrested in the early hours of yesterday, Monday, and further called on community members who had gate motors stolen to come forward and identify their property.

“Police received information about a white BMW allegedly involved in gate motor thefts in the Rustenburg area and members of the Flying Squad located the vehicle matching the description provided. The driver attempted to flee but was intercepted, leading to his arrest for possession of suspected stolen property,” said Mokgadi.

He said members of the Flying Squad recovered eight gate motors with an estimated value of R80 000, believed to have been stolen shortly after midnight.
”The tools allegedly used to remove the gate motors were confiscated and the BMW was also seized after it was found to be fitted with fake number plates,” he added.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 3 June, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of the National Road Traffic Act for operating a vehicle with false registration plates. Investigation is ongoing into the theft of gate motors recovered.
