HUMANSDORP – Police have opened an inquiry after a suspect fled from private security officers in Humansdorp, leaving behind a bag containing suspected unprocessed Tik worth nearly R1 million.

According to police spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy, the seizure took place along Voortrekker Road in Humansdorp after a suspicious individual managed to evade law enforcement and private security officers.

“A private security company approached a suspicious-looking man walking along Voortrekker Road. Upon seeing the security officers, the man immediately fled the scene on foot,” said McCarthy.

He said that while running away, the man discarded the bag he was carrying.

“The security officers inspected the abandoned bag and discovered a large quantity of suspected unprocessed Tik inside,” said McCarthy.

He said the SAPS was immediately summoned to the scene to take over the exhibit and log the drugs for forensic analysis.

McCarthy said an inquiry has been registered to trace the ownership of the contraband and track down the fleeing suspect.

He said the police request anyone with information that could assist in identifying or locating the suspect to contact Humansdorp SAPS or share a tip anonymously via the MySAPS App or by calling Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
