The DHL Stormers are poised for one of their biggest Champions Cup challenges to date when they welcome previous champions Stade Rochelais to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, December 13.
The encounter represents a pivotal moment in the Stormers’ European campaign, as they seek to establish themselves among the continent’s elite whilst facing a La Rochelle side that has has won back to back European titles.
The Stormers have embraced the opportunity to spread their Champions Cup presence beyond Cape Town, bringing world-class European rugby to the passionate supporters of Gqeberha.

The 48,000-capacity venue has previously hosted Springbok internationals and provides an imposing atmosphere that the Stormers hope will give them a crucial advantage against their illustrious visitors.
Stade Rochelais arrive in South Africa as one of Europe’s most formidable forces, having captured back-to-back Champions Cup titles in 2022 and 2023. Under the guidance of legendary Irish fly-half Ronan O’Gara, they have developed a reputation for their physical forward dominance and clinical finishing.
The French powerhouse boasts an intimidating squad featuring French captain Grégory Alldritt at number eight, the towering presence of Will Skelton and Kane Douglas in the second row, and the massive frame of Uini Atonio anchoring the front row at 145kg.
In the backs, they possess game-breaking talent in the form of centres Jonathan Danty and Levani Botia, whilst the experience of New Zealand fly-half Ihaia West provides tactical leadership.
