ODENDAALSRUS – A 36-year-old man has been arrested after police allegedly found him in possession of a firearm reported stolen during a recent house burglary in Odendaalsrus.

According to police, members of the Odendaalsrus Rural Safety Unit acted on information received on Monday, 20 July 2026, regarding a person allegedly in unlawful possession of a firearm.

Officers proceeded to the identified address, where they conducted a search and reportedly recovered a Pietro Beretta pistol in the suspect’s possession.

The man was arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that the firearm was stolen during a recent residential burglary in Odendaalsrus. The recovered pistol has been seized and booked into evidence as investigations continue.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 22 July, on charges relating to the unlawful possession of a firearm.
