Movie lovers can step back in time this November as Ster-Kinekor launches its Throwback Cinema series, offering tickets to iconic film classics for just R50 each.
The month-long celebration features a carefully curated selection of beloved films, headlined by The Rocky Horror Picture Show marking its 50th anniversary, alongside two James Bond adventures and the epic Troy.
Bond returns to action
The action kicks off on Friday, 7 November, with the 2015 thriller Spectre, starring Daniel Craig in his penultimate outing as the iconic secret agent. Directed by Sam Mendes, the film follows Bond as he uncovers the sinister organisation SPECTRE while M battles political forces threatening the secret service.

Pierce Brosnan’s Bond makes his return on 21 November with GoldenEye, the 1995 film that redefined the franchise for a new generation. The movie pits 007 against former ally Alec Trevelyan (Sean Bean) and the deadly Xenia Onatopp in a race to prevent a satellite weapon from destroying Earth.

Rocky Horror celebrates golden anniversary
The month’s centrepiece arrives on 14 November with The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the cult musical that has inspired generations of midnight movie devotees. The 50th anniversary screening promises to deliver the full interactive experience that made the film legendary, complete with audience participation and the iconic Time Warp dance.
The musical follows newly engaged couple Brad and Janet as they encounter the eccentric Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his bizarre household after their car breaks down.

Epic adventure closes the month
Troy, Wolfgang Petersen’s 2004 epic starring Brad Pitt as Achilles, rounds out the programme on 28 November. The film depicts the legendary siege of Troy, sparked when Paris of Troy elopes with Helen, Queen of Sparta, triggering a war that would become the stuff of legend.

“There’s something special about watching a classic film in the cinema again – the atmosphere, the sound, the scale, which cannot be replicated in any other format,” explains Lynne Wylie, Ster-Kinekor’s chief marketing officer.
“Throwback Cinema is all about rediscovering why we fell in love with movies in the first place, and it’s our way of bringing all those great moments back for the fans who love great movies.”
The Throwback Cinema series will screen at 16 Ster-Kinekor locations across South Africa, including venues in Johannesburg (Sandton, Mall of Africa, Eastgate, Cresta, and Rosebank Nouveau), Tshwane (Irene and The Grove), and Cape Town (Blue Route, V&A Waterfront, Capegate, and Tygervalley).
Additional locations include Vaal in Vanderbijlpark, Mooirivier in Potchefstroom, Shelly Beach in KwaZulu-Natal, Baywest in Gqeberha, and Somerset Mall in Somerset West.
