Pieter-Steph du Toit, Malcolm Marx, Ox Nche and Ethan Hooker were all nominated for World Rugby Awards.
The Springbok quartet received nominations across two prestigious categories. Three players compete for World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year honours.

Du Toit leads the South African charge after winning the award twice previously. The versatile forward claimed the title in 2019 and 2024 as rugby history-maker. Marx joins du Toit and Nche in the Player of Year category. France’s Louis Bielle-Biarrey completes the four-man shortlist for rugby’s top individual honour.
Marx previously earned a nomination for the same award in 2018. The veteran hooker continues demonstrating world-class consistency throughout his international career.
Hooker competes in the World Rugby Men’s 15s Breakthrough Player category. New Zealand’s Fabian Holland, England’s Henry Pollock and Australia’s Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii join him.
“I congratulate Pieter-Steph, Malcolm, Ox and Ethan for global recognition,” Alexander stated. “Having three Player of Year nominees from South Africa demonstrates exceptional quality,” said SA Rugby President Mark Alexander

Alexander praised the players’ exceptional seasonal performances across international rugby. The SA Rugby President expressed national pride in their remarkable achievements.
“They deserve this recognition after outstanding performances this season,” Alexander continued. “SA Rugby and the entire country feel incredibly proud of their success.”
The World Rugby Awards ceremony takes place on Saturday, November 22. Winners will receive recognition as rugby’s finest performers during the announcement ceremony.
South African rugby boasts strong historical representation in these awards. Willie le Roux and Duane Vermeulen earned nominations in 2014 for previous excellence.
Faf de Klerk received recognition in 2018 for his influential performances. Lukhanyo Am joined the nominees list in 2022 for his consistent excellence.
Only three South Africans have claimed the ultimate prize throughout awards history. Schalk Burger triumphed in 2004, followed by Bryan Habana in 2007.

Du Toit stands as the sole South African to capture multiple awards. His potential third victory would establish unprecedented dominance in world rugby recognition.
World Rugby will announce its Dream Team of the Year on Tuesday, November 25. The selection recognizes the sport’s outstanding performers across international competition.
“Being nominated represents a remarkable achievement regardless of Saturday’s outcome,” Alexander concluded. The recognition validates South African rugby’s continued global excellence and competitive strength.
