Garbisi succeeded at his third penalty attempt in the 37th minute. Italy drew level. Italy were matching South Africa’s physical intensity perfectly.
Marco van Staden powered over just before half-time for the match’s opening try. The Springboks led 3-10 at the break after a brutal forward battle.
Canan Moodie’s penalty in the 43rd minute allowed Garbisi to reduce the deficit to 6-10. Louis Lynagh dominated the aerial exchanges, winning crucial possession for Italy.
Van Staden’s sin-bin in the 52nd minute left South Africa with 13 players temporarily. Garbisi’s penalty made it a one-point game at 9-10.
Pollard extended South Africa’s lead to 9-13 with another penalty before Lorenzo Cannone received a yellow card.
Morne van den Berg scored after a powerful Springbok scrum in the 60th minute. Ange Capuozzo responded with a brilliant inside-line try for Italy.

Grant Williams sealed victory with a 73rd-minute try following superb counter-attacking play. Ethan Hooker completed the scoring after collecting Manie Libbok’s perfectly weighted cross-kick.
South Africa’s remarkable resilience and tactical adjustments secured an impressive away victory against determined Italian opposition.
