Crime-watch groups buzzed in the early hours of Tuesday morning as reports of a deadly domestic dispute circulated.
“Just after midnight, an incident happened in Lebombo Road, Tafelsig,” the message read. “The son apparently slit the dad’s throat.”
A video also circulating with the alert showed emergency workers putting a body bag into a vehicle in the pitch dark.
Man fatally stabbed
Constable Ndakhe Gwala, media liaison officer at the Western Cape Media Centre, confirmed a 45-year-old man was fatally stabbed at the address in the early hours of Tuesday 30 June. She said police responded to reports of a stabbing about 00:10 and found the man’s body at the back of the main house. He had a stab wound to the neck and was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Witnesses pointed out a 22-year-old man, who is a relative of the deceased. The suspect had visible injuries and was taken to hospital, she said.
Mitchells Plain police have registered a murder case. The circumstances surrounding the incident were under investigation, she said.
