Six suspects arrested for murders in Bojanala Platinum district


RUSTENBURG – Six suspects have been arrested in connection with multiple murder cases in the Bojanala Platinum district, North West police said.

Rustenburg police arrested Reitumetse Makakane Nkeche (36), a Lesotho national, on Tuesday 16 June in Reutlwile Metso section, Zinniaville, Rustenburg.

Nkeche is accused of shooting and killing Tankie Ephraim Mototi (34), known as Mafutha, in Kroondal near Rustenburg on Friday night 14 November 2025. He is also linked to the murder of Lenka Mokoma (28), who was shot multiple times in Nkaneng informal settlement near Rustenburg on Sunday 22 February 2026.

The suspect was arrested after the Rustenburg Flying Squad received information about his whereabouts. He was found at the identified premises and immediately taken into custody.

Nkeche was charged with two counts of murder and appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 18 June. He was remanded in custody until his next appearance on Monday 13 July.

In a separate incident, four male suspects were arrested on Friday 12 June 2026 in connection with three murder cases reported in Hebron between April and May 2026.

Members of Brits Crime Intelligence and Hebron Detectives identified the suspects, and intelligence was operationalised by the Brits Trio Task Team.

The four suspects, Samkeleli Beje (24), Kabelo Zitha (27), Bonginkosi Cele (36) and Lucky Ndou (47, were traced and arrested in Hebron.

They appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday 15 June and were remanded in custody until their next appearance, today, Monday 22 June.

Investigations are continuing, and the possibility of linking the four suspects to additional cases has not been ruled out.

Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, the acting provincial commissioner of the North West Province, commended the teams for their swift action, stating that the arrests demonstrate the South African Police Service’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crime are brought to book through intelligence-driven operations.
