Paarl Gim delivered an utterly ruthless 61-10 demolition of Noordheuwel on Noord Suid Day Two, showcasing the complete package of power, precision and clinical finishing that makes them one of schoolboy rugby’s most feared outfits. The men from Paarl were relentless from first whistle to last, dismantling a Noordheuwel side that let 40 points in against Garsfontein recently.
Dirk Hugo opened the account with typical directness, driving hard and low close to the line to breach the defence. 7-0, and Paarl Gim had laid down the marker.
Noordheuwel’s attempts to gain territory proved futile. Every time the Krugersdorp side kicked, Louis Koen launched it straight back with interest.
The 12th minute brought try number two. Paarl Gim took a quick tap penalty, moved it rapidly through the hands before unleashing burly lock Bernhardt Schulze. The big forward rammed over with power to spare. 14-0, and Noordheuwel were chasing shadows.
Gim displayed zero fear in running the ball from deep inside their own territory, backing their skill and support play to create opportunities from anywhere on the pitch.
The 16th minute brought disaster for Noordheuwel. Robert Hurn received a red card for a dangerous tackle, reducing the visitors to 14 men. Game over as a contest.
Paarl Gim showed no mercy. From the penalty, they went to the touchline, set up their powerful driving maul and rumbled to the goal line where Corné Niemand dotted down. 19-0, and Noordheuwel faced a mountainous task.
Dirk Hugo struck again moments later. When a Noordheuwel lineout went horribly wrong, Hugo pounced on the loose ball and beat three defenders with pace and footwork to claim his second. 28-0, and the rout was gathering momentum.
Paarl Gim’s defence stood up magnificently to everything Noordheuwel threw at them. Big double hits stopped any momentum the Krugersdorp side attempted to build, shutting down attacks before they could develop.
When Gim’s maul drove forward again, resistance proved futile. Charles Whitehead powered over to stretch the halftime advantage to 35-0.
Noordheuwel desperately needed to stop the bleeding or face a long, painful evening.
The interval brought no respite. Paarl Gim attacked the blindside from a scrum, handling brilliantly through multiple pairs of hands before sending Corné De Beer over in the corner. 42-0, and Noordheuwel’s misery continued.
Finally, the visitors’ luck turned. A powerful driving maul allowed Armand van Eck to dot down for a desperately needed score.
But Paarl Gim remained utterly relentless. The 51st minute brought another maul try as Corné Niemand grabbed his second, pushing the lead to 47-5.
Seven minutes later, Gim went wide with devastating effect. Hannes de Kock dived over to extend the advantage to 54-5. The points kept flowing.
The 66th minute saw Thomas Saunders add another five-pointer, stretching the lead to 61-5. Louis Koen’s golden boot added the extras, the flyhalf’s kicking display proved immaculate, missing just one kick all evening.
In the dying seconds, JB Blount scored a consolation for Noordheuwel to make the final score 61-10.
When the final whistle sounded, Paarl Gim had delivered a comprehensive display across all facets. Their maul proved an unstoppable weapon, their handling created opportunities at will, and their defence shut down everything Noordheuwel attempted.
