Paarl Boys’ High School has announced that U19A rugby head coach Sean Erasmus will leave the school at the end of the year to join Maties Rugby Club in Stellenbosch.

Erasmus first joined the school in 2014 before moving to coach the Golden Lions in Johannesburg in 2018. He returned to Paarl at the end of 2021, where he served as head coach until the conclusion of the current season.

During his time with the Boishaai rugby programme, Erasmus compiled a remarkable coaching record. He coached 185 matches, achieving 153 victories, 30 defeats and two draws. Under his guidance, 119 players represented Western Province in U18 teams, while 42 players went on to represent South African Schools teams.

Erasmus also became the first Paarl Boys’ High School coach to be appointed as coach of the South African Schools team, marking a significant milestone in the school’s rugby history.

The school extended its appreciation for his contribution to the programme. His dedication and professionalism have contributed to the development of numerous players and the continued success of the rugby programme over more than a decade of involvement with the school.

Erasmus will begin his new position with Maties Rugby Club in September 2026 but will remain involved with Paarl Boys’ High until the end of the year.

The school described him as a valued member of the Boishaai family and wished him well in the next chapter of his coaching career.

Paarl Boys’ High School, one of South Africa’s premier rugby schools, has not yet announced who will replace Erasmus as head coach.
