Durban High School and Peterhouse Boys delivered polished performances on day two of the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival (KERF) on Saturday 4 April, while Milnerton High and Hoërskool Rustenburg showed grit despite falling short.
DHS too strong for Rusties
Durban High School (DHS) maintained their unbeaten KERF momentum with a convincing 38-7 win over Hoërskool Rustenburg in the second match of the day.
The Horseflies had to work early on as Rustenburg kept matters tight, but DHS struck first through inside centre Sterling Padi after slick handling out wide. Scrumhalf Hlomela Mbani added a second just before the break, with Tanwil Onkers converting to hand DHS a 12-0 halftime lead.
DHS took control in the second half, with Cilermo Carolus crossing twice, while Daniel Kazambo and Richard Kriel also dotted down as the pressure mounted. Onkers proved reliable off the tee, finishing with four conversions.
Rustenburg showed fight, with Wicus Arnold crashing over for their only try, but the Durban side’s intensity ultimately proved decisive.
Peterhouse edge thrilling opener
Earlier, Peterhouse Boys edged Milnerton High 29-23 in a high-tempo clash that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
Milnerton opened the scoring through captain Chadlin Sellidon’s penalty, but Peterhouse responded swiftly, with flyhalf Victor Watama orchestrating play and contributing 11 points.
The Zimbabwean side’s forwards laid a strong platform, with Prosper Zimbango prominent, while Zviko Matipano’s brace of tries proved crucial in the second half.
Milnerton remained in the contest throughout, with tries from Charl Michaux, Akho Mkaya and Troy Ferreira, but Peterhouse held firm to avenge last year’s defeat.
