MELODING and THABONG – SAPS Lejweleputswa conducted two Child Protection Week outreach programmes across this Free State district between Friday 29 May and Sunday, partnering with community organisations, faith-based groups and government departments to promote child safety and awareness.
The first event took place on Friday at 10:30, at the Tswelopele Day Care Centre within the Meloding Policing Precinct. Informative pamphlets containing child safety messages were distributed to learners and educators to reinforce awareness.
Sgt Majoala Malindi of the Lejweleputswa District Partnership Policing delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to all stakeholders for their commitment to child protection initiatives.
Sergeant Chaka, Meloding SAPS Community Police Officer, directed the event, which saw participation from multiple stakeholders including the Meloding SAPS, Bronville SAPS, Radiant Futures Foundation, Women’s Movement Campaign, Meloding SAPS Community Police Forum, Lejweleputswa District Youth Desk, Meloding Community Patrollers and the Victim Empowerment Programme.






The second programme was held on Sunday at 10:00, at the Uniting Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa in Thabong.
The event aimed to educate congregants, parents, guardians and children on their collective responsibility in creating safe environments where children can grow free from abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence.
Highlights of the Meloding programme
Const. Niniko Radebe of the Welkom SAPS Social Crime Prevention unit outlined the purpose of Child Protection Week and encouraged parents, caregivers, educators, religious leaders and community members to remain vigilant and report concerns relating to child safety and welfare.

Attendees were encouraged to foster open communication with children, promote positive values and ensure children are empowered to speak out against abuse. The programme highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts between families, schools, faith communities, government departments and law enforcement agencies.
The congregation and members of the children’s ministry expressed satisfaction with the engagement and welcomed the information shared, acknowledging the value of continued partnerships aimed at educating communities and protecting vulnerable children.
