Stellenbosch schoolchildren erupted in excitement on Tuesday 2 December as South African cricket legend Makhaya Ntini arrived at Pieter Langeveldt Primary School in Cloetesville, bringing the SA20 Trophy and tournament fever to the Western Cape with just 24 days remaining before the first ball is bowled in the fourth season.
The celebrated former Proteas fast bowler headlined the SA20 Schools Tour, sharing stories and engaging with learner in what organisers described as an “unforgettable celebration of cricket, entertainment and youth energy”.
Accompanying Ntini was Paarl Royals player Nqaba Peter, who conducted cricket demonstrations and interactive sessions that showcased the excitement surrounding South Africa’s premier T20 league.

Deluxe entertainment
The morning’s proceedings were hosted by Leandie Durandt, an actress, television presenter and motivational speaker who forms part of the SA20’s innovative “20th Player” campaign. This initiative brings influential personalities into the heart of the league to bridge cricket with culture, entertainment and youth engagement.
Entertainment was provided by DJ Bravo, whose high-energy performance had the school “buzzing,” while learners enthusiastically queued for photographs with the coveted SA20 Trophy.
The visit is part of a broader campaign to generate excitement ahead of what promises to be the Western Cape’s most thrilling SA20 summer to date. MI Cape Town will return to Newlands while Paarl Royals resume their residency at Boland Park for five home fixtures each, with tickets selling rapidly across all venues.
Big-hitting action
Beyond world-class cricket, this season will feature a comprehensive festival atmosphere including live music, interactive fan zones, dance competitions, and the “Put Your Hands Up” promotion.
The tournament’s centrepiece remains the R2 million “Catch a Million” challenge, offering spectators the opportunity to win substantial prizes for taking clean one-handed catches.
The SA20 Final at Newlands on Sunday, 25 January, is approaching capacity, with general access tickets sold out. A limited number of premium hospitality packages are available, featuring premium viewing positions, world-class catering, and a half-time performance by Will Linley.
