Following news of his death, the Paarl Boys’ High Old Boys’ Union released a heartfelt statement honoring his memory: “We share the grief of the class of 2013 over the passing of Dewald Naudé. Our hearts go out in love to the Naudé family during this time. May the cherished memories of his life bring comfort and strength.”

Former schoolmates remembered Naudé not only for his natural athleticism on the field, but also for his warm and grounded character.

Making waves on all levels

After high school, Naudé moved to Gauteng in 2016 to advance his career at the University of Pretoria (UP-Tuks) and within the Vodacom Blue Bulls structures.

During the 2017 season, he delivered a series of standout performances on the wing for UP-Tuks, cementing his status as one of the most dangerous attacking backs in the Varsity Cup competition.

He later returned to the Western Cape to join the FNB Maties Rugby Club at Stellenbosch University. Playing for the Maroon Machine, Naudé became fan-favourite for his signature step and acceleration, earning a reputation as a lethal finisher who could turn matches around in an instant.

Beyond local shores, Naudé’s playing career included international club stints, including representing HKU Sandy Bay RFC in Hong Kong’s Premiership competition.

Tributes honour a humble star

Tributes across social media highlighted Naudé’s character off the pitch as much as his accomplishments on it.

Friends, supporters and fellow rugby players described him as a humble, kind, and respectful young man who gave his all to the teams he represented.

Details regarding funeral arrangements and memorial services are expected to be shared by his family in due course. The cause of death was not known at the time of publishing.
