CAPE TOWN – Road closures in and around Durbanville during the 99er Cycle Tour will affect motorists.
The 99er Cycle Tour, in association with Smile FM, is back this coming Saturday (7 February).
As a result several roads in and around Durbanville will be temporarily closed, with traffic-control measures in place. Expect road closures and delays between 05:00 and 13:00, especially along Sport Way, Koeberg Road, Adderley Road and surrounding areas, including Durmonte, Goedemoed, D’Urbanvale, Vierlanden, Proteaville, Durbanville Central and nearby suburbs, warn the tour organisers.
The event, organised and hosted by El Shaddai Christian School in Durbanville, is the school’s primary fundraising initiative and promises another unforgettable day in the saddle. Riders can look forward to a vibrant finish village, packed with entertainment, food stalls and fantastic lucky-draw prizes.
This year’s 99er Cycle Tour offers a refined selection of routes to suit every rider: a 45 km road race, 76 km road race, 95 km road race and 80 km Trilogy hybrid race. Both the 95 km road and 80 km Trilogy routes are official seeding events for the 2026 Cape Town Cycle Tour, making them perfect for riders aiming to improve their start positions, according to the organisers.
It’s not too late to join the ride. Limited late entries are available at number collection points at Kenilworth Race Course on Thursday 5 February (10:00 to 19:00) and Durbanville Rugby Club on Friday 6 February (10:00 to 19:00). No late entries will be accepted on race day.
Road closures and disruptions
To ensure the safety of participants, several roads will be closed and traffic calming measures will be in effect throughout the event. With a large number of cyclists and vehicles expected, traffic delays and congestion are anticipated in certain areas, according to the organisers.
“If you are planning to be out and about on Saturday morning in Durbanville, the 99er Cycle Tour may affect your plans,” was advised. “So do plan ahead, leave a little earlier or do things little differently and use an alternate route.”
