THEUNISSEN – Police detectives from Theunissen are investigating a case of murder following an alleged mob-justice incident at a farm in the Theunissen policing precinct.

It is alleged that on Saturday 21 March, at about 14:10, police were summoned to an incident of the alleged mob-attack at a farm.

Police swiftly responded, and on arrival, they found a severely injured man with his hands and feet tied with a wire. He was bleeding profusely, and his face was badly swollen.

The victim was surrounded by a group of seemingly angry and rowdy people.

Paseka Phiri (35) was declared dead on the scene by emergency services personnel.

According to information received, the victim was discovered inside one of the farm houses after he allegedly broke a window to gain entry into that residence.

He was then allegedly accosted and severely assaulted.

A case of murder was registered and is under police investigation. No arrests have been made at this stage.

As a result of this incident, the police would like to bring it to the attention of members of the public that vigilantism is criminal offence.

Members of the public are warned not to take the law into their own hands.

The police are urging anyone with information that could assist with investigations or lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects to come forward.
