Paris Saint-Germain have booked their ticket to Budapest. The reigning European champions weathered a late Bayern Munich storm to secure a 6-5 aggregate victory in their Champions League semi-final, setting up a mouthwatering showdown with Premier League leaders Arsenal in the final.

Luis Enrique’s men carried their first-leg momentum into the Parc des Princes cauldron, striking with devastating efficiency in the opening exchanges. Just three minutes had elapsed when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia terrorised Bayern’s backline down the left flank, ghosting past his marker before delivering a perfectly weighted cut-back. Ousmane Dembélé needed no second invitation, rifling home with venom to send the Parisian faithful into raptures and extend their aggregate advantage.

The early strike forced Vincent Kompany’s charges onto the front foot, but clear-cut chances proved elusive in the opening exchanges. Bayern’s best opportunity of the first half fell to Luis Díaz on 22 minutes, the Colombian surging through midfield before unleashing a fierce drive from distance that screamed inches over Matvey Safonov’s crossbar.

Whilst the second leg failed to match the goal-fest of the first encounter, the intensity never wavered. Michael Olise showcased his technical prowess on the edge of the area, carving out space with neat footwork before his curling effort drifted agonisingly wide of the upright. At the opposite end, João Neves threatened to double PSG’s advantage on the night, only to be thwarted by a typically commanding Manuel Neuer save.

The Bavarians continued to probe, searching desperately for the breakthrough that would swing the tie in their favour. Jamal Musiala looked certain to restore parity when he created space in the box, but Safonov produced a world-class reflex save to deny the German international’s thunderous effort on the stroke of half-time.

Bayern’s desperation was nearly punished moments before the interval when Désiré Doué broke free down the right channel, forcing Neuer into a smart low save to keep the aggregate deficit at two goals.

Kompany rolled the dice on 67 minutes, introducing Alphonso Davies and Min-Jae Kim for Josip Stanišić and Jonathan Tah as Bayern chased the tie. Enrique had already made his move moments earlier, withdrawing the influential Dembélé for Bradley Barcola.

The changes nearly paid dividends in the dying embers of the contest. Deep into second-half stoppage time, Harry Kane displayed his predatory instincts, spinning sharply in the box before hammering past Safonov to halve the deficit on the night and give Bayern a glimmer of hope.

But the equaliser arrived too late to shift the momentum. PSG’s experienced campaigners managed the final moments with composure, seeing out the remaining seconds to secure their place in consecutive Champions League finals, a remarkable achievement for the French giants.

Enrique’s side will now prepare for a Budapest showdown with Arsenal, who have enjoyed a stellar Premier League campaign. The final promises to be a fascinating tactical battle between two of Europe’s most progressive coaches.

For Bayern, the defeat represents another semi-final heartbreak in their quest to reclaim European football’s ultimate prize. Kompany’s project shows promise, but the Bavarians will rue their inability to capitalise on their second-half pressure when the tie was still within reach.
