President Cyril Ramaphosa (73) has been booked off from public engagements after falling ill following his return from the BRICS Summit in India.
The Presidency confirmed on Wednesday that Ramaphosa’s medical team has advised him to rest and recover. He returned to South Africa on Monday after attending the BRICS Summit in India.
Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the president has asked ministers to represent him at scheduled public events where possible. The Presidency did not provide details about the nature of the illness or how long Ramaphosa is expected to be off duty.
The Presidency has not indicated when Ramaphosa is expected to return to his official schedule.
