CAPE TOWN – The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape has issued an urgent warning to the public about a fraudulent Truecaller profile that is falsely impersonating Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General (Adv.) T.E. Patekile.

The fake profile is linked to landline number 021 811 2463 and incorrectly displays the name of the Provincial Commissioner, potentially deceiving unsuspecting members of the public.

SAPS officials have said that this profile is completely fraudulent and has no association whatsoever with Provincial Commissioner Patekile or the South African Police Service.

“We want to make it absolutely clear that this profile is fake,” a SAPS spokesperson stated. “The public should be extremely cautious when receiving calls from this number.”

Authorities are strongly advising members of the public to:

• Avoid engaging with callers from the number 021 811 2463
• Never share personal information with individuals calling from this number
• Report any suspicious calls or potential scams immediately

Citizens who receive suspicious calls can report them to:
• Their nearest police station
• The SAPS Crime Stop number: 08600 10111

SAPS has also reminded the public to always verify official police communication through legitimate channels before responding to any requests for information or assistance.
