GQEBERHA – Gqeberha police have arrested two suspects on Thursday, 9 October, who were allegedly involved in a series of crimes in the Motherwell area and were also in possession of a firearm, ammunition and stolen property.

According to police spokesperson Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the Motherwell Cluster Task Team at about 01:00 received information about a white Nissan Sentra that was allegedly involved in a series of robberies in the Motherwell area.

“The members followed up on the information and later spotted the vehicle in Nyarha Street, Motherwell with three occupants,” she reported.

She said upon stopping the vehicle, one suspect managed to flee the scene on foot, while the remaining suspects were apprehended.

“A search at the residence of one of the suspects in Ngxangxosi Street led to the recovery of a cell phone believed to be stolen. The owner could not provide proof of ownership, and a case of possession of suspected stolen property was opened at SAPS Ikamvelihle and a suspect (41) was arrested,” she added.

She further added: “Further investigation into one of the arrested suspects led the team to an address in NU 4B, where a firearm and ammunition were recovered. A case of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at SAPS Motherwell, and the suspect (45) was arrested. During the investigation, they will also probe if these suspects could be linked to other reported cases.”

The duo will appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 October 2025.
