A multi-agency search and rescue effort is currently underway at Strand Beach this afternoon (Wednesday 2 September), after three swimmers fell into difficulty in the surf between Strand Lifesaving Club and the Helderberg Marine Protected Area.
One swimmer was rescued and attended to by paramedics on the beach, while two others remain missing.
A rescue crew from the National Sea Rescue Institure (NSRI) and a team of the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service have joined emergency personnel on scene. Updates will follow as the situation develops.
