Golden Arrow suspends driver after pedestrian killed in CBD

A Golden Arrow Bus Service (GABS) bus driver has been suspended following a fatal accident in the Cape Town city centre that claimed the life of a female pedestrian yesterday (16 July).

According to provincial police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala, Cape Town Central police have opened a case of culpable homicide following the incident, which occurred at approximately 09:30 on Wednesday, at the corner of Plein and Strand Streets.

Gwala said the woman, who has not yet been identified, was struck by a bus while crossing the road.

She was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation,” said Gwala.

Bronwen Dyke-Beyer, spokesperson for GABS, confirmed that the driver involved has been suspended while the investigation is underway.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we are fully cooperating with the police to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, ” said Dyke-Beyer.
