Fish Hoek High School celebrated its highly anticipated Founders’ Day on Friday 4 September.
The milestone event served as an open invitation to all past learners, affectionately known as the “Reds,” to return to their alma mater.
The alumni were treated to a special Founders’ Day Assembly and enjoyed cake and coffee afterwards, according to school spokesperson Michelle Reynolds.
Also featured was an exclusive campus tour to view some of major infrastructure changes on campus.The school first opened its doors in January 1954.
The celebrations kicked off at 13:00 with the assembly, visitors arriving somewhat earlier to secure seating, and returning alumni had the opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art, still-under-construction Aquatic Centre and Clubhouse, an expected world-class facility, a strictly-limited physical walk-through owing to the erstwhile works.
Fish Hoek High principal Steven Joubert spoke of the profound emotional and historic significance of Founders’ Day, an annual moment seen as vital for many associated with the school over the years to celebrate the school’s founding vision, rich history and collective achievements.
These have cemented the school’s reputation as a leading co-educational institution in the Southern Suburbs.
By bringing alumni back onto campus the school aimed to bridge its deep historical legacies with its ongoing forward momentum.
He said having former students interact with current learners provided the student body with living proof of what a solid Fish Hoek High education could lead to.
A key highlight of the event was the sneak peek at the new Aquatic Centre and Clubhouse.
According to Joubert once the world-class facility was fully completed it would provide learners with a distinct competitive advantage in both swimming and water polo.
The infrastructure was designed to support a year-round, intensive aquatic programme specifically intended to establish the school as a leader in Western Cape aquatics.
The benefits of the multi-million rand development were also set to extend far beyond the school gates.
The principal confirmed that the facility was destined to serve as a vital local hub for grassroots aquatic development.
It was planned to offer youth from the broader Fish Hoek community access to essential learn-to-swim initiatives, formal water-safety training and top-tier facilities capable of hosting regional sporting events.
The school management was working on expanding its global alumni network. Plans were underway to launch dedicated alumni-directed events and fresh digital platforms.
He encouraged all former learners to walk the familiar corridors once more, reconnect with old classmates, meet the next generation of leaders and witness first-hand how the famous “Reds” spirit remained stronger than ever.
