A local animal-welfare organisation in Ottery is appealing to the community to help raise funds for the animals in their care through supporting their two upcoming charity book fairs next month.

Animal Rescue Organisation (ARO), a non-profit organisation (NPO) based in Ottery, provides life-saving veterinary care to families who would otherwise not be able to afford it.

Funds for a good cause

“We’re delighted to be involved with two back-to-back charity book fairs this year,” said Lindsey Concer, its Head of Fundraising.

“The Cavendish Square Charity Book Sale will be held from Thursday 17 September to Sunday 20 September, and from there it’s on to the Somerset Mall Charity Book Fair from Wednesday 23 to Sunday 27 September. This is a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for a good cause through a love of books.”

In May this year, after a year-long wait, ARO held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the launch of its third mobile veterinary clinic on Thursday 8 May to expand access to animal care in under-resourced communities and assist neglected animals (“New clinic ready to roll”, People’s Post, 5 May).

Last year, ARO was appealing for funds to help cover its costs to build another clinic.

Proceeds go towards sterilisations

For the charity book fundraiser, the organisation has set a goal of collecting 800 books in good condition and is appealing to members of the public to search their shelves to help boost stock.

Schools are welcome to initiate book drives, with a cash prize on offer for the school that brings in the most books, she adds.

All proceeds go towards providing vaccinations, sterilisations and life-saving care for animals in impoverished areas.

“Our community has shown unbelievable generosity and kindness, and we are incredibly grateful for every donation that comes our way,” said Concer.

“People choosing kindness is what is helping build up these communities and save the lives of the most vulnerable animals.”
