FlySafair has confirmed that selected flights will be affected between Tuesday, 22 July, and Monday, 28 July 2025, after a deadlock in negotiations with its pilots.

The disruption follows a breakdown in talks between the airline and trade union Solidarity, which represents the majority of FlySafair’s pilots. After three months of negotiations, the union rejected the airline’s final offer of a 5.7% salary increase and limited compensation adjustments.

According to Solidarity’s deputy general secretary, Helgard Cronje, the offer was turned down not only due to financial concerns but also because of a deeply strained relationship between pilots and management.

“The poor relationship between management and the pilots has now led to a situation where the public will bear the consequences of unresolved workplace conflict,” Cronje said in a statement.

Pilots have also raised serious concerns about a new shift roster system and changes to leave policies, both of which they say negatively affect their quality of life. The roster issue, while separate from the wage dispute, could trigger a second strike in the near future.

Solidarity and FlySafair will, on Thursday 17 July, finalise the strike rules under the guidance of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA). The strike could then start a few days later.

FlySafair’s Chief Marketing Officer, Kirby Gordon, said affected passengers will be contacted using the information provided at the time of booking.
