Khayelitsha Cookie Company, a company based in Beaconvale, Parow, is spreading its wings.
It was recently reported that the company will soon be exporting its baked goods to the United Kingdom (UK), as well as see them serve their products onboard British Airways (BA).
Khayeltisha Cookies employs previously unemployed women mainly from Khayelitsha and surrounding poverty-stricken areas in the Western Cape, their bio reads. The women are trained to hand bake and hand pack their cookies, brownies and cheese straws at their factory in Parow.
The cookies are sold in various sectors, such as hospitality, schools, hospitals, offices and retail stores.
Export agreement
It was reported in the media recently that Khayelitsha Cookies had secured deals with two UK-backed companies – one which is an agreement to serve its products onboard BA flights, Engineering News reports. It’s reported that the deals were concluded with support from the UK Trade Partnerships Programme.
Business Tech reports that the programme aims to support developing nations in utilising the UK’s Economic Partnership Agreement to boost exports.
Also part of the export agreement is the sale of its private label shortbreads to the UK market.
MoneyWeb reports that the two deals total more than R1,4 million.
Adri Williams, managing director of Khayelitsha Cookies, who has won numerous awards, bought the business in 2013 with a partner.
