Truck hits motorcyclist overtaking

A motorcyclist tragically died on Monday (31 August) after being involved in an accident in the Groot Drakenstein area.

Kurt Maske, a local paramedic, says he was among the first responders who responded to the scene which also involved a truck.

“Both the truck and the biker were travelling from the Groot Drakenstein side towards Pniel. The bike overtook a few cars and then the truck turned right to go into one of the farms and the bike hit the truck that way. When we got to the scene he was dead. There were two other patients in the truck. They were assessed but they were not injured.”

Sgt Wesley Twigg, spokesperson for the Western Cape police, says a culpable homicide case has been opened and is being investigated by the Groot Drakenstein police. Twigg further confirmed that the accident took place on the R310, Main Road.

“The motorcycle driver was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and no arrests have been made.”

Twigg urged anyone with any information about this incident to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.
