Last week Drakenstein Municipality announced the municipal swimming pool in Klein Drakenstein Road, Paarl East was closed until further notice due to a nationwide shortage in chemicals required to meet the water quality necessary for safe swimming.
According to the municipality its main concerns are the safety and well-being of residents/swimmers.
“At present the health-and-safety risks of compromised water quality are too significant to keep the pool open.
“There is a possibility that our other municipal pools may also have to be closed in the absence of chlorine chips, chlorine gas and HTH®. The municipality is doing everything in our power to obtain these materials as quickly as possible.”
