A local female security guard is fearing for her safety after reportedly receiving threats from a man who assaulted her at a business premises in Paarl on 8 September.

She said she fails to understand why Paarl police have still not arrested the perpetrator after a case was opened the very same day of the assault.

The victim, who does not want to be named for fear of her safety, told Paarl Post that a verbal altercation broke out between her and the alleged perpetrator over a receipt at the entrance to a hardware store in Paarl.

CCTV footage captured the perpetrator entering the store and slapping the security guard in her face.

She explained that they are two contracted security guards working at this specific store.

She explained that a verbal disgreement broke out after initially three men wanted to exit the store but could not as an item appeared on their receipt that they did not have with them.

“They told me that the paint (as it appears on the slip) was still being mixed. I insisted that my job is to make sure that customers show me all the items that appear on their receipt.

“She said then I must go and fetch the paint myself, upon which I replied that I cannot leave the door unattended.”

She added; “Their behavior, especially the one guy, was aggressive from the start. One other customer even asked me when I started selling alcohol as these men were acting drunk and very suspiciously.

“The one men then proceeded to shout at me. He called me a lazy b*tch.”

She said after she allowed them to exit the store, she followed them.

“They were acting suspicious to the point where I even thought maybe they were stealing. I then returned to the entrance.”

Three minutes later the same customer returned and slapped the female security guard in her face.

The CCTV shows how the altercation and fighting proceeds to the parking area of the store.

“I opened a case that same day and now (three weeks later) that man is still free. He has sent threats to me through other people.

“When I recently visited my boyfriend in Dal Josaphat, I saw him standing at the end of the road staring at me.

“I fear for my life and even asked that my company station me at a different business.

“People told me that this is a dangerous man, and clearly even the police is either very scared of him or protecting him.”

She said even the workers at the hardware store were hesitant to give witness statements.

She added that police should be able to identify the suspect through the CCTV footage and a number plate that her colleague was able to write down.

No feedback was received from police about the developments in the case.
