In November 2024, the encryption key numbers in prepaid electricity meters used in Drakenstein will expire and it will not be possible for consumers using these meters to buy electricity.
To prevent this, Drakenstein Municipality is doing a municipal-wide prepaid electricity meter audit, to ensure all encryption key numbers are reset before the November deadline.
The municipality has contracted the company ONTEC to undertake the prepaid electricity-meter audit on the municipality’s behalf. All auditors will have the following with them at all times:. an identity card with his/her photograph and the logo of the municipality (valid from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2024); and. an appointment letter from the municipality.
The prepaid meter auditors started their inspections in Drakenstein in November 2019 and will continue until 30 June 2024. They are under strict instructions to follow all prescribed Covid-19 health protocols and guidelines, and sanitise before and after entering homes or business premises.
Drakenstein Municipality calls on the community of Drakenstein to assist the municipality by granting the meter auditors access to their residences or businesses to inspect the effectiveness of their prepaid meters. Before allowing them to enter make sure they are carrying the required identity card and can produce the appointment letter from the municipality.
The meter auditors visit residences and businesses between 08:00 and 18:00 on weekdays. Where it is not possible to grant them access during these hours, appointments can be made to conduct the meter audit after hours.
