The legendary ultramarathon, The Comrades Marathon, takes place on Sunday 28 August. This year’s race is a “down run”, starting at the City Hall in Pietermaritzburg and finishing in Durban, a massive distance of 90,2 km. And once again, many local athletes will be travelling to KZN for this gruelling challenge, with almost 16 000 athletes, both national and international. Here on the eve of their departure, are some of our local brave athletes from Paarl Athletic Club (PAC) who are taking part: Roxann Message (novice), Michelle Dreyer (8), Cornel Stander (novice), Christopher (Buddy) Darlew (4), Kobus Cornelissen (4), Gareth Haarhoff (novice), Nicolette Beffels (novice), Cailey Bredenkamp (16). Other members of PAC taking part are Marais Conradie (2), Andus Duvenage (5), Petro Jordaan, Marga Roets and Suritha van Tonder. Paarl Post would like to wish all Drakenstein athletes in this year’s Comrades all the best. You make us proud!Photo: Lise Beyers
