The leaves are changing colour, the sun rises later, and it cools down at night. Autumn is a wonderful time of year to enjoy the colourful scenery in the Winelands.

Trail runners will be treated to views of the winelands from Morgenhof estate, as they climb the Dirtopia singletrack on Mother’s day morning, Sunday 8 May.

Presented by Sportsman’s Warehouse, the Autumn Trail Run offers a 6 km and tougher 11 km that will start from 08:30.

Historically a wine estate since 1692, they can trace the rich winemaking history of the estate back to the original French Huguenots. Lucky draws and prizes are also up for grabs.

A fully stocked water point on both routes will also include fresh fruit, while all finishers receive a medal and Coke. Coffee will be available when registration opens at 07:30 and the revamped restaurant will offer various meals. Enjoy the morning on the lawns and stroll through the gardens after you run.

Enter online at www.dirtpass.co.za to save was by Thursday night, 5 May – with the 6 km R140 and the 11 km R170. Note that kids only R60 for pre-entries! Late entries will be accepted on the morning at a higher fee.

On Sunday 15 May is the next Sunset to Full Moon Hike at Muratie Wine Estate. Book tickets of R100 per person (half price kids) on the Dirtpass website for this popular event and meet at the Trail Centre between 16:15 and 17:00. Sunset is 17:50 and the moon will rise soon after. At the Muratie wine station, the picnic spot at the lookout point, hikers will see beautiful views of the Winelands with Table Mountain in the distance! Total route only 3,5 km – so it is perfect for families. You’ll be done by 19:00.

Mountain bikers can improve their skills with coach David Hogan on 22 May. A fundamental and a separate intermediate class is scheduled from Dirtopia Trail Centre on Muratie wine farm. This outdoor shop also sells permits for the Simonsberg trail system – open seven days a week with various options of distances and all levels of fitness catered for.
