Paarl Girls’ High School recently announced the names of its Eco Committee on 11 April. The team — Emily Catto (leader), Cara Pratt, Leané Coetzer, Tatum Sproston, Charné van Staden, Emma Anema, Rachel Britz and Yvonne Fischer — work together under the guidance of Bianca de Villiers (teacher). On 14 April the committee hosted a street clean-up. They encouraged a big group of GHS learners to clean the streets in the vicinity of the school. On 22 April, as part of International Earth Day, they launched a creative Earth Day competition, where learners could submit creative pieces in celebration of the earth. It was also civvies day. and everyone could dress up in the colours of the earth — white, green, blue and brown. The Eco Committee has had their hands full and also planted a water oak tree together on the school grounds. On the day Lyré Bornmann (Gr 2) and Karli Smit (Gr 8) were chosen as the best dressed. Elle Joubert (Gr 5) wrote a song and won the prize for the best creative piece in the primary school category, with Kyla Oberholster (Gr 3) as the runner-up. Marise du Toit (Gr 9) won best creative piece in the high school category, with Sanele Tshuma (Gr 10) as the runner-up. Pictured here at the street clean-up are Grade 8 l
