The case of a suspect charged with the possession of illegal drugs worth R57 800 who appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court, was withdrawn for reasons unknown.

Last week two suspects were nabbed in different areas in Mbekweni following searches of well-known drug houses in which a wide range of drugs were discovered.

WO Nceba Vanqa, spokesperson for Mbekweni police, said this was thanks to an operation led by Capt James Veldsman.

“After receiving information about possible drug dealing, the officers went to a house in Project 2 in Mbekweni on Wednesday evening (9 March). During the search they found 124,35g of Mandrax powder, 56,51g of crushed Mandrax, 443 Mandrax tablets, 29 half Mandrax pills and 452,1g of Tik as well as a large amount of cash.

The street value of the drugs amount to R57 800.

A 35-year-old Nigerian foreign national, Emmanuel Ehirim, was arrested for the possession of drugs and appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Friday (11 March). He was however released pending further investigation.

Another man, 28-year-old Lecone Thote, was arrested in possession of drugs shortly after midnight on 10 March.

In the White City area police officers found and confiscated 22 Mandrax and dagga bankies with a street value of R4 500. Thote appeared in Paarl Magistrates’ Court on the same day for possession of drugs, Vanqa said.
