Two dancers from Paarl, Delia Huskisson and Imma Grobbelaar, from Bootscooters SA, a local dance school teaching Country Couples and Line Dancing, represented the South African team of 35 dancers at the recent “World Dance Masters” World Championship this past weekend.

They qualified at the South African championships held in Bloemfontein at the beginning of July, together with two other Bootscooter dancers, Richard Smith and Annette Badenhorst.

The World Championship is showcased annually at the legendary Winter Gardens in Blackpool, and this year hosted 870 Country Couples and Line Dance competitors and more than 2 000 social dancers from across the world.

The competition stretches over three days of gruelling heats for many divisions in which Grobbelaar, who competes in Advanced Silver age division, didn’t reach the final round.

Huskisson took 1st place in the Allstar Silver age division of which there were six competitors. This is the highest division in the world of Country Dance.

“We are extremely proud of her achievements as she has worked tirelessly for many years to achieve this elite competitive status and her and Imma really are the epitomy of how beautiful and classic the Country Dance genre is” says Karin van der Merwe, instructor and owner of Bootscooters SA.
