Ayama Slent Farms in Paarl hosted the sixth annual Strides for Africa Walkathon on Saturday, 3 October, attracting participants for a day focused on sustainability, wellness and community engagement.
The World Fair Trade Organization Africa and Middle East (WFTO), in partnership with Paarl Travel and Tourism (Pty) Ltd, organised the event, which featured a 5km walk through the farm’s surroundings and an exhibition promoting sustainable living and local enterprise.
Local vendors displayed products including locally produced honey, recycled wire art and second-hand clothing. Animal Warriors presented puppies for adoption and taught children how to interact safely with young animals, promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
Ayama Slent Farms hosted the event at no cost. PACRS Security sponsored security services, while Titans Kickboxing Club led a warm-up session before the walk. Manzi Water provided hydration for participants.
PaarlFM provided entertainment, Bereshith Productions supplied sound equipment, Winelands Studio recorded the event, and photographer Mohamed Uzair Appolis captured images of the day.
The event focused on supporting local entrepreneurs, encouraging responsible consumption and bringing communities together around sustainability goals.
The organisers said they plan to host the event again in 2027.
