Reacting to puzzling circumstances Monday evening, the Drakenstein Farm Watch (DFW) reported that “youngsters involved in an accident [had] dropped an injured 12-year-old in a church backyard.”
The DFW’s Daan van Leeuwen- Boomkamp, said the group had received a distress call just after 18:00 from upset Amberg residents near Keerweder Road, Klein Drakenstein.
He said a young boy was discovered lying motionless in the backyard of the Ascension church in the area.
“Shortly before the boy was discovered, an accident had taken place nearby. We suspect the youngster was involved in the accident and taken to the backyard of the church by other passengers of the car involved in the accident.”
DFW Advanced Emergency First Aid Responders quickly rushed to the scene.
They found a young boy in the church grounds, who was hardly moving. DFW volunteers performed first aid on the scene and called for an ambulance.
After the child was taken to hospital, and on further investigation by an ADT armed response officer and the DFW, the other passengers were found in an informal settlement nearby.
“Two other passengers who allegedly ran from the crash site were also injured, and one was taken to hospital by local residents. The second passenger was examined by DFW crew on site, showing signs of concussion due to a head injury.”
Van Leeuwen Boomkamp said on further investigation it appeared the driver of the vehicle did not have a licence.
Paarl police spokesperson Captain Louise du Plessis said no case relating to these circumstances had been opened.
