Two farmers of Paarl are in police custody following a fatal shooting incident earlier this evening.
According to Paarl police spokesperson, Capt. Louise du Plessis police were informed of an incident between the Sonstraal bridge and N1 whereby it is alleged, according to witnesses, that the two farmers shot at illegal fruit sellers on the bridge.
“When they fled the bridge onto the N1 another shot was fired towards the group, fatally wounding one of the men. The deceased is a 40-year-old male from Paarl East.”
Du Plessis said the two farmers handed themselves over to the police at the scene.
“A murder investigation has been opened and the two farmers, aged 65 and 68, have been detained.”
