Spotted smoke, quick response, saved settlement

Drakenstein Farm Watch (DFW) reported on a settlement in Bo-Dal Road in Paarl that was dangerously close to destruction by a sweeping fire on 13 July. “A Fidelity ADT officer, M Farmer, saw smoke coming from one of the structures. Farmer, who is also a Drakenstein Farm Watch trained fire and rescue volunteer, informed the DFW emergency control room,” said Daan van Leeuwen Boomkamp. Drakenstein Fire Brigade was also alerted and soon arrived. DFW sent two trucks and two SUV’s to assist in combating the fire. “In literally minutes the fire was suppressed and a further drama nipped in the bud. Neighbours and bystanders assisted greatly with buckets and garden hoses.”Photo: DFW Facebook
