A Paarl resident who spent nearly three decades in the financial services sector and now works as a mindful practitioner is inviting readers into what she describes as the defining moments of her first 50 years and how they ultimately shaped her purpose.
In her debut book, Pivotal Points, Bronwen Baymen (51) reflects on a life journey that spans motherhood, grief, corporate leadership and, ultimately, spiritual awakening. The memoir, completed in just weeks but rooted in years of reflection, will be launched in Paarl next month.
“In Pivotal Points, [the book] invites you into the intimate landscape of [Bronwen’s] first fifty years, where nothing is wasted and everything becomes a teacher,” she said.
The book traces her path “through motherhood, grief and corporate journeys to spiritual awakening and self-discovery; she shows how the seemingly insignificant moments are often the ones that guide us.”
It is, she said, “a book about paying attention and trusting the signs. It’s about seeing the human first, in others and in yourself. And about realising that every step, even the painful ones, prepares you for the life you are meant to live.”
According to Baymen, readers can expect a deeply reflective experience. “It is a book that will leave you feeling inspired and will spark reflective thoughts about your own journey, based on the pivotal points that have shaped your life.”
Paarl to purposeful practice
Born and raised in Paarl, Bronwen attended LK Zeeman Primary and Klein Nederburg Secondary School, growing up largely in her grandmother’s home in Amstelhof, Paarl East. She later obtained a BSc degree from Stellenbosch University before embarking on a three-decade career in financial services.
Over time, she developed a passion for healing and coaching, a shift that would eventually redefine her professional path. In 2022, she founded Mindful Practice, blending her corporate experience with mindfulness-based techniques to support individuals and groups – especially working women – in personal development.
Through her work, she says she aims to create spaces where people feel seen, heard and supported, guiding them on what she describes as an inner transformative journey. The experiences that informed this transition are documented chronologically in Pivotal Points.
Written in a season of reflection
Although the book was written over the Christmas holidays of 2025 “in a record amount of time”, Baymen described it as the culmination of years of inner work. During December 2025 she revisited the significant events of her life, expanding on the framework of a short e-book she had produced two years earlier.
She described the process as “flowy and easy, yet intense”, requiring her to relive both the highs and the lows of her first 50 years. Maintaining a daily routine of walking and meditating, she says, supported her creative process.
The experience, she added, was “deeply healing; as if a deeper level within her soul has unlocked.”According to Bayman, she examined each of the five decades of her life, identifying the defining or pivotal moments within each period. She explains that a pivotal moment may be something celebratory, such as starting a new job or getting married, but it can equally arise from adversity.
For Bayman, these pivotal moments included losing her husband, becoming a single mother, living abroad and navigating the demands of the corporate financial sector. She says these experiences, both affirming and challenging, shaped her into the person she is today.
The lessons she learned from these defining periods, she added, have equipped her to guide and educate others through their own life transitions.
The manuscript was submitted to Kintsukuroi Consulting for editing in early January 2026.
