Last week 22 beneficiaries received the keys to their new homes that are part of the Vlakkeland Housing Project in Paarl.

The handover, by Conrad Poole, Executive Mayor of Drakenstein, took place on Thursday 13 April.

He said: “Today has been made possible thanks to the excellent collaboration and teamwork between the Western Cape Department of Human Settlements (WCDoHS) and Drakenstein Municipality.

“Ownership of property creates a feeling of safety for residents, a place that offers a sense of stability in their lives,” said Poole. “It is my great honour to hand these houses on behalf of the municipality, where we care about the wellbeing of our communities.

“These handovers are only the start of more houses to follow. We realise how important it is to further develop our city, and to create opportunities to support Drakenstein’s economic growth.”

The Mayor thanked the WCDoHS and Tertuis Simmers, Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure, for their role in making this project possible and contributing to Drakenstein Municipality’s vision of a city of excellence.

Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) Rita Andreas also visited and engaged with beneficiaries as they took occupancy of their brand-new homes.

Gerald Esau, Executive Director of Community Services at Drakenstein Municipality, and Avron Appollis, MMC for Public Safety at Drakenstein Municipality, were also present at the handover.
