CAPE TOWN – Armed gangsters in a car chased their pedestrian rivals down and shot one of them dead earlier this week.

Capt FC van Wyk of the police’s provincial media centre, said Lentegeur police had registered a murder and an attempted murder case following the shooting incident on Sunday 1 February in Tracy Crescent, Montrose Park, Mitchells Plain.

Van Wyk said a 34-year-old man was shot and killed, and another injured when four men in a blue VW Golf pursued them and opened fire.

He said the motive was believed to be gang-related.

Weapons found

In a separate incident in the same area, Lentegeur police also recovered several weapons and ammunition in Betty Close.

Lentegeur Police Station spokesperson Const Navon van Houten said the gun was found after a tip-off.

The silver Norico firearm with 12 live rounds was found in the bedroom of a 25-year-old man, who was arrested.

Lentegeur police also found firearms in a pink bag at a house in Hugo Naude Street, New Woodlands, after another tip-off.

The homeowner contacted the station after spotting the suspicious-looking bag.

Police investigated and found three firearms in the bag with 208 live rounds of ammunition.
