Yet another National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) official has been targeted, with a senior official’s vehicle shot at in the early hours of Monday 18 August, in the Tiryville area in Kariega.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said that preliminary reports indicate that the NPA official was arriving at his private residence with his immediate family, and as their vehicle was stationary at the premises’s gate, they were approached by a group of four unidentified suspects.
“One of the suspects produced a firearm and discharged multiple shots at the vehicle before the group fled the scene on foot. No one inside the vehicle was injured during the attack,” she added.
She said the motive for the attack is yet to be determined and forms a critical line of investigation.
She stated that a case of attempted murder has been registered at SAPS Kamesh for investigation.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Eastern Cape, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso has condemned the incident.
“The brazen attack on an officer of the court and his family is an attack on the very foundation of our justice system. We will not tolerate such acts of intimidation and violence. We are confident that we will apprehend those responsible,” stated Kupiso.
“The identity of the official and his family are being withheld for their safety and security.”
This failed assassination attempt is not long after the murder of a Gqeberha state prosecutor, Tracy Brown.

As previously reported by the Express, police reports stated that the Brown’s incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, 31 July, in the Algoa Park policing precinct, Gqeberha. It allegedly took place outside her home in Young Park in the presence of her partner and young daughter.
